Intensity level 6-8

Thai massage promotes and enhances energy flow around the body, allowing one to feel energized and rejuvenated. Thai Massage is different from a typical Western massage, as it involves the use of meridian lines, also known as the “flow of life” or energy lines. These networks of lines are the energy channels that link the body together and are responsible for circulating energy within the body, thus are believed to be a strong influence on one’s overall well-being and health. Thai Massage thus aims to ensure that the system is allowing optimal energy flow within the body by clearing any blockages that are present in the energy lines. This is achieved through the incorporation of gentle yoga-like stretches in the limbs and joints, which aims to open the body’s energy lines to relax the whole body.

Technique

Unlike most types of massages, Thai Massage takes place on a floor mat instead of a massage table. The masseuse will gradually assist your body into a series of yoga-like stretches. For example, some of the common yoga-like stretches involve the therapist pulling your arms to arch your back and open your chest or lift your legs to stretch your hamstrings. The masseuse may also use his/her elbows, feet, knees, and forearms to help manipulate your body into certain positions. The gentle stretching is complemented by methods such as body compressions and gentle rocking. These techniques are incorporated in the massage to relax the body and restore the body’s energy balance. Gentle pressure is applied to specific pressure points along the body. High pressures will be applied at certain points to stimulate the body’s energy pathways. These varying pressures are in line with the Ayurvedic Principle of balancing energies. The massage often starts from the feet and gradually moves up towards the head.

Benefits

Thai Massage has numerous positive impacts on health and overall well-being. The varying pressures applied in different points assist in improving overall blood circulation in the body, which facilitates the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the tissues. With a strengthened blood circulation in the body, the brain can receive more oxygen, which is an excellent remedy for easing headaches and migraines. An improved blood circulation can also effectively help to remove wastes from the body, such as metabolic by-products and carbon dioxide. The stretches incorporated in the Thai Massage helps to relieve stiffness in the muscles and joints. Getting a regular Thai Massage can improve the body’s flexibility, mobility, and enhances the range of motions in the limbs and throughout the body. The stretches are also designed to reduce muscle tensions and release muscles to bring one to a more relaxed state. This is ideal for individuals who suffer from chronic lower back pains.
